This year, Jihoon and Seung Yeop had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2023 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Meeting held at the Seattle Convention Center, USA!
First of all, the Seattle Convention Center proved to be an exceptional venue, boasting numerous presentation rooms and vast spaces accommodating hundreds of posters simultaneously. Both Jihoon and Seung Yeop presented their research through posters, which garnered significant attention from fellow conference attendees, engaging in deep discussions regarding their work and offering valuable insights for future research endeavors.
Beyond academic engagements hoping to find hints for new concepts and ideas, they also got to tour and thoroughly enjoy exploring the captivating city of Seattle. Accompanied by Prof. Cho, they ventured into the bustling Starbucks Reserve, a rare treat amidst the usual long lines and atmosphere. Not only did they get to get a closer look at the actual brewery but also had a meaningful delving into discussions about their daily lives at SCBEL, currently ongoing research projects, and plans for the future, benefitting from Prof. Cho's wise mentorship.
On another day, Prof. Cho, Jihoon, and Seung Yeop had the chance to take the convenient monorail and visit the iconic Space Needle where they caught up with two of our lab's esteemed alumni of SCBEL, Prof. Kisuk Yang and Prof. Jung Seung Lee. From the needle's summit, they were all left in augh and mesmerized by the panoramic views of Seattle clearly showing how beautiful the city is. The festivities continued as the past and current members of SCBEL gathered to indulge in authentic American hamburgers which was actually recommended by a friendly local randomly encountered on the streets who used to be in the US Forces Korea.
In retrospect, the 2023 BMES was not only a professional success but also a memorable journey filled with meaningful connections and inspiration for Jihoon and Seung Yeop. They were grateful to Prof. Cho for granting them the privilege to take part in such an unforgettable experience.
