Professor Seung-Woo Cho attended Future Medicine Forum 2025, held in August 21. The main subject of the forum was a major shift that pharmaceutical industry has been undergoing after U.S. FDA announced plans to phase out animal testing in drug development. At the forum hosted by Kookmin Ilbo (국민일보) and Kuki News (쿠키뉴스), experts agreed that although fully replacing animal testing in the short term is difficult due to technical and regulatory challenges, it is an inevitable direction for the future. Stem-cell based organoids and organ-on-a-chip based microphysiological systems were focused as promising alternatives.
Professor Cho emphasized the importance of regulatory support and standardized guidelines to accelerate commercialization and clinical adoption of these platforms.
